ROS1-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a subtype characterized by a genetic alteration involving the ROS1 gene. This gene codes for a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a role in cell growth and proliferation. When the ROS1 gene undergoes rearrangement or fusion with another gene, it can lead to abnormal activation of the ROS1 protein, resulting in uncontrolled cell growth and cancer development. The precise cause of ROS1 rearrangements in NSCLC remains poorly understood.
