  Acute Low back pain is pain, muscle tension, or stiffness, localised below the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal folds, with or without referred or radicular leg pain persists for <12 weeks. Acute LBP may be self-limiting, although there is a high recurrence rate with less-painful symptoms recurring in 50% to 80% of people within one year of the initial episode; 1 year later, as many as 33% of people still experience moderate-intensity pain and 15% experience severe pain. This type of pain is most common between the ages of 35 to 55 years. Symptoms, pathology, and radiological appearances are poorly correlated. An anatomical source of the pain cannot be identified in about 80% of people. Acute LBP is the 2nd most common symptomatic reason for office visits to primary care physicians and the most common sense for office visits to orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and occupational medicine physicians.
