Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive neurodegenerative syndrome resulting from blunt force impacts on the head, either singular or repetitive, leading to the transfer of acceleration-deceleration forces to the brain. Symptoms of CTE may initially resemble those of acute traumatic brain injury (TBI), persisting after documented brain trauma or emerging after a latent period that can span from days to decades. Clinical manifestations of CTE typically include mood disorders, cognitive and behavioral impairments, as well as sensorimotor deficits.
