  Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a Gram-negative, helix-shaped, microaerophilic, flagellated bacterium capable of converting its shape from spiral to coccoid, which is believed to be to be involved in the enhancement of bacterial survival in the host gastric microenvironment. ·        H pylori cause acute gastritis characterized by neutrophil infiltration into the foveolar and surface epithelium and degenerative epithelial changes. H pylori cause a persistent infection in the majority of infected individuals. ·        Long-term infection by H pylori results in chronic gastritis, a condition manifest as multiple pathologic entities. Due to H pylori infection, chronic gastritis may be separated into distinct, clinically relevant phenotypes.
