  Marburg disease, also known as malignant MS, is a rare and severe variant of multiple sclerosis (MS), predominantly affecting young adults. Symptoms including confusion, headaches, vomiting, gait instability, and hemiparesis mark this acute condition. The disease rapidly progresses, often resulting in severe, frequent relapses that can lead to death or significant disability within weeks to months, primarily due to brainstem complications or cerebral herniation. Survivors typically develop a relapsing form of MS. Marburg disease might also be considered a severe, monophasic variant of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), especially when preceded by febrile illness. Marburg virus disease (MVD) transmission mainly occurs through direct contact with infected individuals or animals' bodily fluids or exposure to contaminated environments.
