  Neurodermatitis, or lichen simplex chronicus, manifests as a skin condition marked by itching, typically in one or more skin patches. Although not life-threatening, it can be distressing. Itching may manifest across various body areas, with predilection towards the arms, shoulders, elbows, legs, ankles, wrists, hands, back of the neck, scalp, and occasionally, the anal and genital regions, as well as the face. This intense itching often prompts frequent scratching, leading to thickened and leathery skin patches or worsening symptoms. Symptoms tend to peak during rest or sleep, with some individuals exacerbating the condition through scratching or rubbing. The exact cause of neurodermatitis remains elusive. However, itching can initiate during periods of heightened stress, anxiety, emotional trauma, or depression. Even after the abatement of mental stress, itching may persist.
