Pouchitis – Market Outlook, Epidemiology, Competitive Landscape, and Market Forecast Report – 2023 To 2033

Pouchitis, an inflammatory condition in the ileal pouch reservoir, is a common long-term complication in patients who've undergone IPAA surgery for ulcerative colitis. It significantly impacts their quality of life. Studies report a cumulative frequency of 23% to 46% over 10-11 years post-surgery. Approximately half of UC patients with IPAA surgery will experience pouchitis at least once. Pouchitis primarily occurs in patients with underlying UC and is rare in those with FAP. Its exact cause remains uncertain, but evidence suggests it results from an abnormal immune response to changes in pouch microflora, causing inflammation. Pouchitis and UC share similar tissue cytokine profiles but are distinct conditions. The role of T-cell-mediated intestinal immunity in pouchitis remains unclear, likely linked to pouch microflora alterations. Changes in macrophage and T cell subpopulations have been suggested in pouchitis development. · The frequency ...
