  Arthralgia is reported by more than half of women during the menopausal transition. Identifying the precise causes of joint pain in postmenopausal women is challenging, as this period often coincides with an increased incidence of chronic rheumatic conditions, such as osteoarthritis. Nonetheless, there is an observed increase in the prevalence of arthralgia associated with the menopausal transition, which is believed to stem from reductions in estrogen levels. Similar syndromes are noted following the abrupt cessation of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or during treatment with aromatase inhibitors, highlighting potential interactions between sex hormones and pain processing pathways, immune cells, and chondrocytes. Currently, no specific treatment is available for menopausal arthralgia, though several conservative measures are beneficial.
