 Platinum-resistant ovarian cancer refers to the recurrence of the disease within 6 months after initial platinum-based chemotherapy, and this definition now also encompasses patients progressing within 6 months after multiple rounds of chemotherapy. The time gap between the last platinum treatment and cancer relapse influences the choice of subsequent treatment, be it platinum-based or other chemotherapeutics in clinical practice. Patients who receive platinum chemotherapy are classified as platinum-sensitive or platinum-resistant based on their platinum-free interval, i.e., the duration from the end of treatment to relapse. Unfortunately, nearly all patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) eventually develop platinum resistance and succumb to the disease.
