Seizure clusters, referred to as acute repetitive seizures, are frequent among individuals with epilepsy. These clusters can prove disruptive and burdensome for both patients and their caregivers. The criteria for defining seizure clusters involve two or more seizures within a 24-hour timeframe, which can span hours or even days. The primary risk factor associated with seizure clusters is the presence of intractable epilepsy characterized by a high average seizure frequency. Multifocal epilepsy, symptomatic generalized epilepsy, a previous history of central nervous system infections, and focal cortical dysplasia have all been identified as risk factors for experiencing seizure clusters. Acute repetitive seizures can manifest in various patterns, such as an increased frequency of auras, partial seizures, myoclonic jerks (generalized seizures), or two or more convulsions within a single day.
