Brain metastasis, occurring in 10% to 50% of cancer patients depending on the primary tumor, is notably more prevalent than primary brain tumors. Lung, breast, and melanoma are primary cancers most prone to spreading to the brain, with small-cell lung cancer having a particularly high propensity, often warranting prophylactic cranial irradiation. Conversely, prostate and head and neck cancers seldom metastasize to the brain, making prediction challenging beyond tumor type and subtype. Similar to primary brain tumors, metastatic brain tumors typically manifest with slowly progressive symptoms lacking specific clinical findings, even in patients with a history of treated cancer.
