Spondyloarthropathy, also referred to as spondyloarthritis, encompasses a group of inflammatory rheumatic diseases characterized by a shared association with the HLA-B27 gene and the presence of enthesitis as the underlying pathological lesion. The five types of spondyloarthritis are axial spondyloarthritis (also known as ankylosing spondylitis), psoriatic arthritis (also known as peripheral spondyloarthritis), reactive arthritis, enteropathic arthritis, and undifferentiated spondyloarthritis. Men and women are equally affected by psoriatic arthritis, while males are affected more frequently by ankylosing spondylitis in a 3:1 ratio. Reactive arthritis exhibits a higher prevalence in males following a venereal infection and equally affects men and women following a dysenteric infection.
