  Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) represent 0.1–0.3% of gastrointestinal malignant neoplasms and are primarily located within the mesenchymal tissue of the gastrointestinal tract. These tumors can manifest at any age, with a median patient age of 60–65 years. Clinically, GISTs often present with symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, and abdominal pain. The stomach is the most common site of occurrence, accounting for approximately 50–60% of cases, followed by the small intestine (20–30%) and, less frequently, the colon and rectum (5%) and the esophagus (<1%). Metastatic disease is identified in approximately 15% of patients at diagnosis. Before the advent of targeted therapies, the management of GISTs was challenging due to their poor response to conventional chemotherapy and radiation, making surgical resection the primary therapeutic option.
