There are two primary categories of dyspepsia: functional dyspepsia, characterized by abdominal discomfort after eating, and organic dyspepsia, caused by underlying medical conditions like ulcers, gastritis, or gallbladder disease. Various factors can cause dyspepsia. Functional dyspepsia, or nonulcer dyspepsia, constitutes around 60% of cases. Approximately 15% to 25% of dyspeptic patients have gastroduodenal ulcer disease, which cannot be reliably distinguished from functional dyspepsia based on symptoms alone.
