Endometrial carcinoma is a cancer that affects the lining of the uterus (endometrium) in younger women. It is estrogen-dependent and characterized by a defined precursor lesion called endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN). The pathogenesis is believed to begin with uninterrupted endometrial proliferation stimulated by estrogen, which progresses through various stages of endometrial hyperplasia. Lead to the development of EIN, which can transform into endometrioid carcinoma. It can be characterized by stromal and myometrial invasion, mutations in certain genes (PTEN and KRAS2), microsatellite instability caused by mismatch repair defects, and a near-diploid karyotype.
