Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive, degenerative disorder that often causes a large scotoma in the central visual field which leads to fixation and reading problems. Etiology- Dry AMD is caused by the appearance of small yellow deposits called drusen, which form under the retina. These are accumulated waste products of the retina, which can grow in size. This can cause the retinal cells in the macula that process light to die, causing vision to become blurred. There are three stages of dry AMD:1. Early-stage of dry AMD: Early-stage of dry AMD: several small drusen or a few medium-sized drusen, usually no symptoms or vision loss.
