  Pressure ulcers, also called pressure injuries or bedsores, are localized injuries affecting the skin and underlying tissues due to prolonged pressure and shear, typically occurring over bony prominences. The process leading to their formation is intricate, involving various contributing factors. Externally, sustained pressure, friction, shear forces, and moisture play roles in tissue deformation and ischemia. Internally, malnutrition, anemia, and endothelial dysfunction can exacerbate tissue damage. While the development of these ulcers is multifaceted, it ultimately results in ischemia and tissue necrosis through a shared pathway.
