  Metrorrhagia (Abnormal uterine bleeding) is a medical term used to describe abnormal uterine bleeding that occurs at irregular intervals and is not associated with the menstrual cycle. It is a symptom rather than a specific medical condition and can be caused by various underlying factors. Metrorrhagia can be caused by a wide range of conditions, including hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids, polyps, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), adenomyosis, cervical or uterine cancer, thyroid disorders, and certain medications like oral contraceptives or anticoagulants. Menorrhagia can be classified into nine categories making up the PALM-COEIN acronym.
