Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is defined as an eating disorder marked by repetitive instances of binge eating, during which the person consumes more food than would typically be consumed within a distinct timeframe. Binge eating disorder (BED) is closely related to non-purging bulimia nervosa (BN), although there are distinctions between the two. The key characteristics of BED involve engaging in episodes of binge eating, occurring at least twice a week for six months, and accompanied by considerable distress. Unlike nonpurging bulimia nervosa, BED does not involve compensatory actions to avoid weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, laxative or diuretic use, or other medications. While many individuals with BED are overweight, not all fall into this category.
