Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of multifactorial etiology characterized by age-specific skin lesions, xerosis, and highly pruritic outbreaks. Usually starting in early childhood, AD significantly reduces patients’ quality of life. Patients with AD are more susceptible to the development of allergic diseases and frequently suffer from multimorbidity. Multiple studies link AD during infancy to the future appearance of asthma and allergic rhinitis, with 80% of patients eventually developing either of them or both. Food allergies occur in 35% of children with AD, and cutaneous infections and keratoconjunctivitis are more frequent than in the general population. ·        According to the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood estimates, AD globally affects 15%–20% of children and 1%–3% of adults.
