Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease characterized by autosomal recessive inheritance. It is caused by a mutation in the CF gene, explicitly affecting the CFTR protein, which is responsible for forming a chloride channel crucial for efficient mucus transport. These CFTR mutations disrupt chloride secretion, water movement, and sodium reabsorption, leading to the thickening of mucus and reduced clearance through cilia. Dehydrated mucus promotes endobronchial infections by a limited range of bacteria and triggers an exaggerated inflammatory response, ultimately resulting in severe bronchiectasis rather than fibrosis. Eventually, this condition leads to respiratory failure. Initially, CF manifests with symptoms related to gastrointestinal and nutritional issues. ·        According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, about ~38,000 Americans, ~5,200 Canadians, and ~27,000 Europeans live with CF. The disease is less common in other regions of the world. Thela...
