  An Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an enlarged area in the lower part of the major vessel that supplies blood to the body (aorta). The aorta runs from your heart through the center of the chest and abdomen. The annual incidence of new AAA diagnoses is approximately 0.4 to 0.67 percent in Western populations. This equates to 2.5 to 6.5 aneurysms per 1000 person-years.
