  Frostbite, also recognized as freezing cold injury (FCI), results in tissue damage due to exposure to cold temperatures, occurring below 0 degrees Celsius. It falls within a spectrum of injuries, ranging from FCI to non-FCI and frostnip. Frostbite is induced when the skin is exposed to freezing conditions, with the risk and severity of injury increasing with prolonged exposure and lower temperatures. The consequences of frostbite can include severe damage, dysfunction, and potential amputation of affected areas. Long-term effects after frostbite may manifest as neuropathic and nociceptive pain, vasomotor disorders, and frostbite arthritis.
