  Sick sinus syndrome (SSS) is characterized by conditions wherein the heart struggles to fulfill its pacemaking role. Typically impacting the elderly, this syndrome encompasses a range of rhythm disturbances, such as bradyarrhythmias, with or without concurrent tachyarrhythmias. Around half of sick sinus syndrome patients experience alternating bradycardia and tachycardia, termed tachybrady syndrome. The condition arises from intrinsic factors like degenerative fibrosis, ion channel irregularities, and sinoatrial node remodeling. At the same time, external influences such as medications, metabolic issues, or autonomic dysfunction can exacerbate or mimic it. Symptoms are often subtle initially but become more pronounced over time, often manifesting as signs of inadequate blood flow to vital organs.
