Inflammatory breast cancer is a rapidly progressing and aggressive form of breast cancer characterized by the infiltration of cancer cells into the skin and lymph vessels of the breast. Unlike many other breast cancers, it often lacks a distinct tumor or lump that can be palpated within the breast. Early symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer may manifest as persistent itching and a rash or small irritation resembling an insect bite. The affected breast typically becomes red, swollen, and warm, accompanied by the dilation of pores on the breast skin, which can give it a pitted appearance similar to an orange peel. Additionally, changes in the nipple, such as inversion, flattening, or dimpling, may occur. There are several established risk factors associated with inflammatory breast cancer.
