  Chronic plaque psoriasis, also known as psoriasis vulgaris, represents a persistent inflammatory dermatological condition characterized by well-defined, erythematous, and scaly plaques predominantly affecting the body's and scalp's extensor surfaces. These lesions may intermittently elicit pruritus or a stinging sensation and can exhibit bleeding upon trauma. Dystrophic nail alterations, including nail pitting, are observed in over a third of individuals with chronic plaque psoriasis, while psoriatic arthropathy manifests in 1% to over 10% of cases. The disease course of chronic plaque psoriasis is marked by periods of exacerbation and remission, exhibiting substantial inter-individual variability in severity and progression.
