The age of onset of symptoms is the most variable factor. This can vary not only between families but also within subtypes of RP. However, after that, the rate and modality of progression tend to follow a fairly predictable and stereotyped exponential pattern. There is no curative therapy for retinitis pigmentosa. However, patients who happen to be taking vitamin A, vitamin E, or both were recorded to have slower declines in ERG amplitudes than those not taking such supplements.
