  Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is an inflammatory condition affecting the upper genital tract in women, primarily involving the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. It is predominantly caused by an ascending infection, wherein pathogenic bacteria from the lower genital tract ascend to the upper tract. Among PID cases, approximately 85% are attributed to sexually transmitted bacteria. The most commonly implicated pathogens responsible for these infections are Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. PID resulting from N. gonorrhoeae tends to be more severe than other causes. On the other hand, PID caused by chlamydia may often remain asymptomatic, leading to subclinical PID. Subclinical PID is concerning as it lacks apparent symptoms but can still have significant long-term repercussions.
