The myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) comprise a heterogeneous group of malignant hematopoietic stem cell disorders characterized by dysplastic and ineffective blood cell production and a variable risk of transformation to acute leukemia.   Epidemiology- According to the literature review, the incidence of MDS in the US is about 4.1–4.6 cases per 100,000 population per year, with approximately 86% of patients aged ≥60years at the time of diagnosis (median age 76 years). The incidence rate is higher in men than women.
