  Moderate to severe acute pain is characterized by a sudden or urgent onset and is typically associated with identifiable, treatable causes such as injury, trauma, surgery, or other medical interventions. Opioids are highly effective in managing acute nociceptive pain due to their potent analgesic properties. However, their use is accompanied by significant risks, including serious adverse effects and a high potential for abuse, addiction, and misuse.
