  Chronic refractory cough (CRC) manifests as a persistent cough resistant to treatment, typically centered around the laryngeal region and often accompanied by dry irritation. Alongside coughing, symptoms include globus sensation, dyspnea, and dysphonia. The condition shares standard features with laryngeal hypersensitivity and chronic pain syndromes, aiding in understanding its underlying mechanisms. The pathophysiology involves heightened cough reflex sensitivity, central and peripheral sensitization, and paradoxical vocal fold movement. Frequently, chronic refractory cough develops post-viral infection. Diagnosis entails excluding or treating primary causes of chronic cough, with the cough persisting despite medical intervention. Presently, there is no approved pharmaceutical intervention for chronic cough.
