Rhegmatogenous
retinal detachment (RRD) is a type of retinal detachment characterized by
subretinal fluid between the neurosensory retina and the underlying retinal
pigment epithelium. RRD typically occurs when a full-thickness defect in the
neurosensory retina allows fluid to enter the subretinal space and separate the
retina from the retinal pigment epithelium. The most common cause of RRD is the
degeneration of the vitreous body, a gel-like substance that helps maintain the
