Diffuse Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis
(Dcssc) Overview
Diffuse
cutaneous systemic sclerosis (dcSSc) is a subtype of Systemic Sclerosis (SSc),
a disease characterized by truncal and acral skin fibrosis with an early and
significant incidence of diffuse involvement (interstitial lung disease,
oliguric renal failure, diffuse gastrointestinal disease, and myocardial
involvement). The disease typically occurs in middle-aged individuals, with
Raynaud’s phenomenon as an early sign. Common manifestations include skin
hardening, telangiectasias, tendon friction rubs, and oesophagal dysmotility.
Arthralgias, acroosteolysis, muscular pain and weakness, and cramps may also
occur. The disease can be life-threatening due to severe complications such as
renal crisis, digestive involvement, lung fibrosis, and pulmonary arterial
hypertension. Differential diagnosis includes several other autoimmune
disorders.
