Choroidal Melanoma Overview

Choroidal melanoma is sporadic cancer that affects adults’ eyes. It may not cause any symptoms for many years before symptoms begin. Symptoms depend on the exact location, tumor size within the eye, and if the tumor is causing secondary effects to the retina. Blurred vision, double vision (diplopia), irritation, pain, flashes of light in the eye, a reduction in the total area of vision, and loss of sight are some of the signs that can appear. The sense of a foreign body in the field of vision (floaters), redness, bulging, or displacement of the eye, a change in the shape of the pupil, and pressure within the eye are all reported as additional CM symptoms. Metamorphopsia is a visual distortion in which a person’s straight lines appear wavy, and parts of the grid appear blank when looking at a grid of straight lines. It’s possible that it’ll spread to other parts of the body. The liver is the most generally affected organ in the body by ocular melanoma metastasis (80% of cases), but it can also affect the lungs, skin or soft tissue, and bone. According to some estimates, 40-50 percent of people with ocular melanoma will develop metastasis.
