Detrusor Overactivity (NDO) treatment modalities options for eight major
markets (USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Japan, and China).
Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity (NDO)
Overview
Neurogenic
Detrusor Overactivity (NDO) is a dysfunction of the bladder that is commonly
observed in individuals with illnesses like multiple sclerosis (MS) and spinal
cord injury (SCI). Urinary incontinence (UI) and injury to the upper urinary
tract can result from NDO’s frequent elevation of bladder pressure. The only
available treatments before adopting onabotulinumtoxin A were oral
anticholinergics and surgical augmentation cystoplasty. Compared to NDO,
overactive bladder (OAB) affects a broader population and is not neurogenic.
Both NDO have a detrimental effect on patients’ quality of life (QOL) and
result in substantial costs associated with healthcare utilization. Before
onabotulinumtoxinA, the OAB community also had a significant unmet demand. Behavioural
therapy is the first-line treatment for overactive bladders, although long-term
patient engagement is challenging. Behavioural therapy alone is not usually
sufficient to meet the treatment goals of most patients; therefore, oral drugs,
such as anticholinergics and, more recently, β3-adrenoceptor agonists, are
frequently employed as a next step.
