market insights under the potential Endometrial Hyperplasia treatment
modalities options for eight major markets (USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain,
UK, Japan, and China).
Endometrial Hyperplasia Overview
Endometrial
Hyperplasia is characterized by an abnormal proliferation of endometrial glands
resulting from an imbalance between estrogenic stimulation and inadequate
progesterone effects. This hormonal disarray can be triggered by various
endogenous and exogenous factors, leading to irregular growth of the
endometrium across a spectrum of changes. The risk factors associated with
endometrial hyperplasia include age, nulliparity, obesity, genetic factors,
diabetes mellitus, anovulatory cycles like in PCOS and perimenopause, ovarian
tumors like granulosa cell tumors, hormone replacement therapy (especially
estrogen-only therapy, which should be avoided in women with a uterus),
over-the-counter herbal preparations with high estrogen content, as well as
immunosuppression and infections, which might contribute to its development.
Additionally, women with Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer or Lynch
syndrome are at an increased risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia. The
most common presentation of endometrial hyperplasia is abnormal uterine
bleeding, manifesting as heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), irregular
bleeding (metrorrhagia), unscheduled bleeding in patients on hormone
replacement therapy, or postmenopausal bleeding. Abnormal discharge, such as
foul-smelling or blood-stained, might also be observed. Diagnostic evaluations,
including PAP smear, may reveal abnormal glandular or atypical endometrial
cells, necessitating further investigation. Differential diagnoses for
endometrial hyperplasia include conditions that cause focal or generalized
thickening of the endometrium, such as endometrial cancer, endometrial polyps,
and endometritis. Progestogens, which induce secretory changes in the
endometrium, have shown promising results in regressing hyperplasia without
atypia, but their efficacy is reduced in the presence of endometrial
intraepithelial neoplasia.
