Hepatitis E – Market Outlook, Epidemiology, Competitive Landscape, and Market Forecast Report – 2023 To 2033

Hepatitis E virus (HEV), belonging to the family Hepeviridae, is a positive sense, single-stranded RNA virus with a genomic length ranging from 6.6 to 7.2 kilobases, containing three open reading frames (ORFs). ORF1, ORF2, ORF3 encodes. There are eight genotypes of HEV. HEV is mainly transmitted through the fecal-oral route, with genotypes 1 and 2 often spreading through contaminated water and leading to large outbreaks in developing regions. Genotypes 3 and 4 are dominant in developed regions, and HEV mainly transmits to humans through contaminated animal products, such as uncooked meat or liver. HEV infection usually results in self-limited acute hepatitis, with clinical manifestations such as anorexia, nausea, vomiting, malaise, abdominal pain, and jaundice lasting less than one month. The incubation period of hepatitis E ranges from 15 to 60 days, and HEV RNA can be detected in feces and serum samples from patients three weeks after infection.

  • HEV infections are highly prevalent worldwide, with an estimated 20 million cases reported annually. These infections lead to approximately 3.3 million cases of symptomatic hepatitis E.
