Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) encompasses conditions affecting the orofacial region, specifically the masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Tricyclic antidepressants can be considered for symptom improvement based on their effectiveness in other pain disorders. TMD is the second most prevalent musculoskeletal pain condition, with low back pain being the most common.
